Chapter 1: Five Past Ten
In the first chapter, Tommo Peaceful, an 18-year-old soldier at war, is trying to remember all of his childhood memories in one night. He thinks about his first day of school and how he was scared of Mr. Munningsad. He remembers his Dad's funeral, as he believes that if he had run away from a falling tree his farther would still be alive. Charlie Peaceful is also introduced. Charlie is Tommo's big brother, and he is three years older than him. Charlie is tough and honest and stands up for Tommo, getting into fights with anyone that would mess with him. Other characters we meet are: Big Joe, their mother, Mr. Munnings, Miss McAllister, and Molly.
Opinions :
Anna: I found the start of chapter 1 a bit confusing because i didn't know if it was set at war or in his childhood. But overall I really enjoyed chapter 1 because I really enjoy the authors (Michal Morpurgo's) style of writing and i found it really sad.
